Valle Cannobina

Beautiful valley and hiking destination near Cannobio

A trip for the whole family

Valle Cannobina / Cannobina Valley

Are you one of those who want to see, smell, hear and feel picturesque natural landscapes not only in movies but also in real life? This wish is fulfilled by Val Cannobina on Lake Maggiore. Already in the early morning often starts a remarkable natural spectacle with huge fog clouds rising to the sky. Animal inhabitants, such as foxes and deer often encountered in the Cannobina Valley, enjoy the climate of the Valle Cannobina. 900 meters above sea level thrive numerous plants such as kiwi, figs, vines and palm trees. They act as a beautiful representation of Italy’s dolce vita. Nestled between the mountains Gridone (2188 m) to the north and Monte Zeda (2156 m) to the south, the Cannobina Valley extends about 25k in a northwesterly direction, starting from Cannobio. Then Val Vigezzo follows, where you can also find the Val Vigezzo ski area.

Covaglia. Spoccia. Cursala. These are villages that combine coziness and harmony. The villages of Crealla and Socraggia also invite you to relax. Visitors forget their everyday stress and linger with their thoughts in the picturesque landscape – in the present.

Cannobina

Falmenta is a place that looks like a model mountain village. The houses are bursting with attention to detail. They are often restored and present the stone old village structures. They serve as proof of the beauty of the story. Right next to it, in Ponte Falmenta, you can start beautiful hikes in the Valle Cannobina. After a short descent from Ponte Falmenta, you reach a suspension bridge from which you can enjoy a great view of the gorge. Several hiking trails start here, some of them over imposing old stone bridges and with wonderful natural swimming spots. If Lake Maggiore is too warm for you in summer, you can cool off here far away from the hustle and bustle. The trails are suitable for families, children enjoy the refreshment in the cool river as well as the four-legged friends.
Active vacationers of any exercise level enjoy the hiking trails. The same applies equally to families with children who want to teach their offspring the benefits of exercise in fresh and, above all, clean air. If you are looking for peace, relaxation and green oases, Valle Cannobina is the place to be: you will hardly find a greener oasis of tranquility and unspoiltness on Lake Maggiore. You will also look in vain for large crowds of tourists like you often find in the Valle Verzasca or Valle Maggia. Between old stone houses and untouched nature, you almost get the feeling that time has stood still. At any time you can find secluded and unspoiled natural swimming spots in clear clean water, one more beautiful than the other. Nevertheless, please take care of your children. Even if the rocks invite you to jump into the water, they are not harmless!

Especially worth mentioning: the gigantic chestnut trees that can be found everywhere in Valle Cannobina. They impress young and old alike. On warm summer days, the trees can do more than just look good. Because at this time of year, they serve not only as an air conditioner, but also as a natural shade. A picnic under a chestnut tree next to a babbling brook offers a wonderful view into the crystal clear water. Therefore, our tip: in addition to hiking gear, don’t forget something for a picnic – it’s worth it!
