Our Tour Tips around Cannobio
Five tours that we always recommend to our guests – from a short riverside walk to a summit tour. All start in the old town of Cannobio, just a few hundred meters from Lakeview.
Cannobio – Sant'Agata
14.1 km · approx. 3 hrs. · 692 m ascent · easy
February to December · Refreshments: Bar in Sant'Agata
The classic right on your doorstep. From the banks of the Cannobino, an old mule track ascends through mixed forest and over a historic stone bridge, with glimpses of the lake sparkling between the trees. In the hamlet of Campeglio, you can refill your water bottle at the fountain. At the top in Sant'Agata (889 m), a break on the bar's terrace is worthwhile – the view over Lake Maggiore is one of the most beautiful in the area. The return journey goes down behind the church to Traffiume and over the suspension bridge to Cannobio.
Cannobio – Monte Giove

The summit tour for all who want to see Cannobio from above. Via Sant'Agata and the San Luca chapel, the path leads up to Alpe Rombiago and finally steeply to the summit cross of Monte Giove (1,274 m). From the stone bench at the summit, the view extends over the lake to Val Grande and Gridone. For the descent towards Alpe Marcalone, there is a steep, chain-secured path – or the more comfortable gravel road.
Cannobio – San Bartolomeo in Montibus – L'Agher

Long, but steady: This tour leads through the quiet mountain hamlets above Cannobio – Campeglio, Socragno, and Cinzago – to the small church of San Bartolomeo in Montibus with a fountain and a shady resting place. Over a wooden bridge and on a narrow, not always clearly marked path, it continues to the plateau of L'Agher (1,029 m) below Monte Faierone. Our tip: return the same way. It is almost continuously in the shade and ideal on hot summer days.
Cannobio – Sant'Anna

The tour for families and hot days: Over the suspension bridge, it goes flat along the Cannobino through the river meadows to the 17th-century church of Sant'Anna. Right next to it, a medieval bridge spans the Orrido, the narrow gorge of the mountain stream – a spectacular view into the depths. Along the way, several bathing spots with clear, cool water invite you to cool off; behind the church, a grotto awaits for refreshments. Particularly impressive after heavy rain.
Cannobio – Traffiume – Acqua Carlina
3 km · approx. 2 hrs. · hardly any elevation gain · easy

A short afternoon walk: past the sports field to the suspension bridge, then through the river meadows of the Cannobino to the road bridge to Traffiume – just before it lies a beautiful bathing spot. The destination is the Acqua Carlina spring, whose water was already valued by the Borromeos in the 19th century. Today, you can fill up with drinking water here for free. Caution: A short section runs along the busy road, please walk in single file.
Safety note: All tours are undertaken at your own risk. The weather on Lake Maggiore can change quickly, and after rain, even small streams can swell significantly in a short time. Sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing are therefore always essential.
