Monte Tamaro

High rope park, MTB downhill, summer toboggan run, hiking destination

A trip for the whole family

Monte Tamaro

A good 60 minutes from Cannobio Lakeview Camp & Resort is Monte Tamaro, a mountain behind Gambarogno. It is accessible by a cable car that starts in Rivera. Sufficient parking spaces are available directly at the valley station, but since they are shared with the adjacent swimming pool, they can be quite scarce, especially in high season.

Starting from the world famous summit church (“Santa Maria degli Angeli” by Mario Botta), Monte Tamaro offers a beautiful hike to Monte Lema. Or alternatively, lots of fun for kids: on the summit you will find a summer toboggan run and a rope slide (“Flying Fox”) as well as a large children’s playground. In addition, a restaurant offers the possibility of lunch, dinner or a quick coffee in between. There are always offers for cable car rides in combination with brunch or dinner, which can round off a Sunday excursion on Lake Maggiore to Monte Tamaro.

At the middle station, the high ropes course invites you to climb and balance in the treetops. There are courses for children from 4 years, 7 years or the big course from 14 years. For a complete climbing session you should plan a good 2 hours and bring the appropriate condition.

Once back down (which is also possible by MTB downhill or hiking), you can end the day with a visit to Splash & Spa Tamaro, the fun pool with water slides located right next to the Tamaro cable car valley station. In addition to some very nice indoor water slides, a wave pool, a warm outdoor pool with massage jets and gorgeous views, spa treatments are also offered at Splash & Spa. Or enjoy power shopping at Foxtown Outlet Center, about 20min away, probably the largest fully covered outlet center in Ticino.
