A museum tour along Lake Maggiore

Suitable for the whole family

Museums on Lake Maggiore

They don’t happen so often on Lake Maggiore, but when they do, they really do: rainy days. In addition to a visit to Lido Locarno or Splash & Spa Tamaro or shopping trips to Foxtown Outlet Center or Vicolungo the Style Outlet, a visit to one of the museums on Lake Maggiore is also a good idea.

Hermann Hesse Museum (Montagnola Ticino/CH, about 65min away) in the municipality where Hermann Hesse lived until his death and where many of his masterpieces were created, testimonies of his life are displayed in Montagnola.

Parisi Valle (Maccagno, art museum, about 60min away) The Parisi Valle Art Museum displays several thousand works of contemporary Italian art dating back to the 1900s

Isola Bella (Stresa, about 75min away) on Isola Bella you will find a beautiful botanical garden and the Palazzo Borromeo. A must visit with wow effect! However, less suitable for rainy days

Villa Panza (Varese, art museum, about 75min away) A large collection of contemporary art can be admired at Villa Panza in Varese.

Ceramics Museum (Laveno, about 75min away) In Palazzo Parabo you can see ceramics/porcelain works, the city of Baveno has a long ceramics tradition, which is exhibited in Palazzo Parabo

Gottard Park (Castelletto sopra Ticino, about 80min away) The private collection of Mr. Gottardo, who has collected throughout his life machines and vehicles that have written civil and military transport history.

Doll Museum (Angera, about 85min away) In a very impressive castle, still preserved today, you will find a large doll museum with well over 1000 dolls on display.

Sasso San Gottardo (Gotthard Pass, about 90min away) here you can visit one of the largest defense installations in Europe – kilometer-long bunkers in the Gotthard mountain massif. Impressive, intense, and also a bit oppressive. But absolutely worth seeing!
